What causes night blindness? Can someone explain it simply?

I’ve heard about night blindness, but I’m not exactly sure what it means or why it happens. Does it mean completely not being able to see in the dark, or just having difficulty seeing at night?

What are the main causes of night blindness? Is it related to vitamin deficiency, eye diseases, or something else? Can it be temporary, or is it a permanent condition?

If someone can explain the common reasons behind night blindness and whether it can be treated or prevented, it would really help me understand it better.
