The world's oldest man passed away just two months shy of his 115th birthday.
Juan Vicente Perez Mora, a revered figure from Venezuela, peacefully "transitioned to eternity" last night, despite having endured through two World Wars and the challenging Covid-19 pandemic.
Recognizing his remarkable longevity, the Guinness Book of World Records (GBWR) officially honored the former farmer in May 2022, declaring him the oldest living man.
Juan leaves behind a large and loving family, consisting of 11 children, 41 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
His passing was confirmed by Freddy Bernal, the governor of Juan's home state of Tachira, Venezuela.
In a statement, Bernal expressed heartfelt sorrow, saying, "Today, with deep sadness and pain, we bid farewell to our dear Juan Vicente Perez Mora, the epitome of a man from Tachira—humble, hard-working, peaceful, and deeply rooted in family and tradition."
He added, "My wife, children, and I had the honor and privilege of meeting him and sharing moments with his beloved ones."
Juan was born on May 27, 1909, witnessing significant technological advancements such as the invention of television, mobile phones, and the internet throughout his lifetime.
His first ID photo, captured in black and white, dates back to when he was just 51 years old.
Affectionately known as "Tio Juan," which translates to Uncle Juan in English, he will be fondly remembered by his family and community for his enduring spirit and rich life experiences.
