Quetta Gladiators announced on Tuesday that Rilee Rossouw will be the captain for the upcoming Pakistan Super League (PSL) season 9, replacing Sarfaraz Ahmed. Sarfaraz, who led the team to three finals and secured their only title win in 2019, will now participate in this year's edition solely as a wicketkeeper-batsman.
Rossouw and Pakistan’s Saud Shakeel were both considered for the captaincy, but the franchise opted for the accomplished South African batsman, who played a crucial role in Quetta Gladiators' 2019 PSL title victory.
Quetta’s owner Nadeem Omer confirmed that Sarfaraz expressed a desire to take a break from the captaincy, with the decision being made in consultation with new head coach Shane Watson and the team management.
Nadeem expressed satisfaction with Shane Watson's return to the franchise, highlighting his outstanding performance in 2018 and 2019. He also urged Kevin Pietersen to join the team, emphasizing the reunion of the "old family of Quetta Gladiators."
