Originally founded in 1941, HBL relocated to Pakistan in 1947 at the behest of Muhammad Ali Jinnah, becoming the nation's first commercial bank.
Evolving progressively, HBL achieved significant milestones, opening its inaugural international branch in Colombo, Sri Lanka, in 1951. In 1971, the iconic HBL Plaza commenced operations. Nationalized in 1974, HBL became a banking industry trendsetter, dominating foreign remittances and loans to small industries.
Privatized in 2004, AKFED assumed control until 2015, when the Pakistani government divested its 41.5% share. Today, HBL stands as Pakistan's largest private bank, continually impacting lives through pioneering initiatives like HBLPSL and the Ehsaas Emergency Cash Program.
