I have been running a small manufacturing unit specializing in leather jackets here in Pakistan and now, I am looking to expand my business internationally by exporting.
The leather industry in Pakistan is quite strong, with us being the 4th largest exporter of leather apparel, which is encouraging. However, I am unsure about the best steps to take to begin exporting and what challenges I might face along the way.
Can anyone guide me on how to get started with exports, especially in terms of documentation, finding buyers, and handling logistics? I have heard about certain platforms and trade fairs but I do not know which ones are reputable or how effective they are.
A friend suggested that I should start by targeting specific markets where Pakistani leather is already popular. But with a limited budget, I want to make sure I invest wisely.
I am considering starting with Southeast Asia or Europe because I have heard they have an interest in leather goods from our region. Also, I have read that Pakistani leather holds a significant share in the global export market, but that also means competition is stiff.
Another friend of mine mentioned contacting local chambers of commerce for support, but I am not sure if that would be helpful or if they would just put me on a never ending list of contacts.
If anyone here has gone through a similar process, your insights would be invaluable. Any advice on potential pitfalls or tips for networking and marketing in international markets would really help me out
Also, if you know any online marketplaces where I can list my products, please let me know! Thanks in advance.
