The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has finalized the scheme for polling stations, indicating that over 92,000 polling stations will be established across the country for the upcoming general elections scheduled for February 8, 2024. The comprehensive polling scheme will be publicly released shortly before the election date, aiming to ensure informed participation and address any potential concerns well in advance.
The plan outlines the distribution of polling stations across all four provinces and the federal capital, categorizing them as normal, sensitive, or highly sensitive based on the security situation and electoral violence history. Sources indicate that a total of 92,353 polling stations will be set up nationwide.
In Punjab, 52,412 polling stations will be established for the general elections, with 6,040 declared highly sensitive and 15,617 declared sensitive. In Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, 15,737 polling stations will be set up, with 4,726 declared highly sensitive and 6,180 declared sensitive. In Sindh, 4,718 polling stations are categorized as normal, 6,576 as sensitive, and 7,802 as highly sensitive. Additionally, 5,015 polling stations will be set up in Balochistan.
The Election Commission has assured that necessary facilities and security arrangements will be provided at the polling stations to ensure a free, fair, and transparent election. Candidates have been warned of legal action if they fail to conclude their election campaigns by midnight on February 6, in compliance with the Elections Act, 2017. Violators of this law will face legal consequences.
