Samsung Electronics Co. is encountering a shortage of its S24 smartphones in Pakistan due to unprecedented demand for its flagship phone, according to a report.
The locally assembled handsets have been highly sought after since their launch earlier this year. Despite being pricier than other models in Samsung’s range, the scarcity of Galaxy S24 Ultra and other S24 devices highlights the purchasing power of affluent Pakistani consumers.
Pakistan, the world’s fifth-most populous nation, boasts 192 million mobile phone users.
“Samsung Electronics is exerting efforts to meet the demand of our customers, and we expect sales to resume shortly,” stated the South Korean company known for its chips, gadgets, and appliances, in an emailed statement.
Government financial incentives have spurred Pakistan’s smartphone industry to transition from predominantly importing overseas-made products in 2017 to domestically assembling the majority of new handsets sold.
Last year, mobile companies produced approximately 21 million units in Pakistan, with local and Chinese brands VGOTEL, Infinix, and Itel leading the charge, while another 1.7 million units were imported, according to data from the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority.
