The announcement of a substantial Ramazan relief package worth Rs7.49 billion set to be implemented at Utility Stores nationwide has garnered attention, with officials gearing up to introduce targeted subsidies on essential items starting March 4. Aimed at easing the financial strain on consumers during the holy month of Ramazan, the relief package will offer discounts on 19 basic items through targeted subsidies.
These subsidized items encompass staples like flour, sugar, cooking oil, rice, pulses, and various other essentials such as dates, besan (chickpea flour), milk, beverages, and spices. Notably, only beneficiaries of the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) will be eligible for the targeted subsidy, while special discounted prices will be extended to general consumers alongside the targeted subsidy for BISP beneficiaries.
The application window for the Ramazan Relief Package for 2024 will remain open until Chaand Raat, providing consumers with ample time to avail themselves of the subsidized items. This year's relief efforts reflect a significant increase from the previous year, with the allocation amounting to Rs5 billion in comparison, underscoring the government's commitment to extending essential relief to citizens during the auspicious month of Ramazan.
Meanwhile, amidst these relief measures, the caretaker government has also implemented a hike in petrol and diesel prices, further impacting the cost of living for the general populace.
