Pakistan secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory over China in the Asian Champions Trophy hockey tournament, keeping their hopes alive for a spot in the semifinals. The initial quarter remained goalless, with Pakistan missing out on converting penalty corners and both teams failing to capitalize on field goal opportunities.
In the second quarter, Pakistan broke the deadlock as Muhammad Khan successfully converted a penalty corner, taking his team into the lead. Despite China's challenge through video referral for a high ball, the goal stood in Pakistan's favor.
With a 1-0 advantage at halftime, Pakistan continued to press forward. However, China managed to equalize five minutes into the third quarter with Jiesheng Gao's goal from a penalty corner. During this period, Pakistan's Ahtisham Aslam received a yellow card while Abdul Rehman was green-carded.
Nevertheless, Pakistan regained their lead in the 39th minute through a well-executed play involving skipper Umar Bhutta and Abdul Rana, ultimately leading to Afraz's goal. As the third quarter concluded, Pakistan held a 2-1 lead. China intensified their possession and passing game in the final quarter, while Pakistan adopted an aggressive approach. The match showcased a spirited competition between the two teams, with Pakistan emerging victorious and China being eliminated from contention for the semifinals
