This is a short list of major problems and challenges of a teacher in Pakistan. Minor and individual problems of teachers are left behind.It's an open call to all teachers in Pakistan, let's have a fruitful discussion on how to overcome these problems and how to meet with these challenges of teachers in Pakistan??
First I would like to declare that I am not a teacher but looking forward to become one in future In shaa Allah. I observe my teachers keenly as they are the people from whom I get motivated. In countries like Pakistan, it is considered to be a noblest profession especially for females. But even then there are certain issues being faced by teachers whether they are in government sector or private as mentioned;
Work burden is not something which a teacher cannot handle. To overcome this challenge there is need to do some planning and use different effective strategies to manage everything without being frustrated. A sober teacher usually pre-plan every task which he/she have during their teaching session. Such teacher manage their work and time accordingly by not delaying their duties but rather doing these on time till the end of their session.
Propaganda and politics in school is the challenge that is not restricted to teaching profession only but in other also this is quite obvious. It is human nature that people get jealous or possessive when they see others living successful lives so is the case here that teachers feels possessive when the see some other teacher more appreciated. A common sensible teacher knows how to tackle this situation with patience and not just reacting to that in unprofessional way.
Lack of respect is not something which we can generalize but it is related to some limited experiences. In Islam great respect and dedication is given to a teacher who is honest in fulfilling his/her duties. In some cases it can be said that teachers are disrespected by their students or some other people who are either
superior in status or post to them but mostly they are respected everywhere. A teacher should be strong enough to gain such a status that everyone get to know their honor and value.
A teacher should be trained enough so that he/she can control their
students’ behavior in the classrooms. They should be able to create such an environment in which a student feels comfort as well as respected towards the teacher. It could be done by structuring the
curriculum in such a way that students do not feel boredom but enjoy study in their limited freedom to be frank and respectful to their teacher. It could be achieved by arranging different activities in the class to create a healthy environment for learning.
Lack of resources is also a major issue being faced by teachers that they have to manage everything in their limited budget. While in this modern world there is dire need of technology to do some research or study projects. This thing is lacking here in Pakistan. Gradually we can overcome this issue by adopting some favorable techniques on the part of govt. and institutional management.
In government sectors, there are
frequent transfers of teachers from one school to the other. It not only affects them but to the students also, who are also experienced with many teachers just in a single year which is not a good sign that would ultimately affect their studies. Government should make some policies regarding this issue and strict rules to be followed.
Parents’ unnecessary involvement is something to be dealt quit professionally. Teachers should be a visionary person who senses the situation and knows how to calm it by avoiding to loose own temper. As it happens in schools parents come to the school and blame the teachers of their child’s low performance and grades in academics so a teacher should not counter claim them but get them to their comfort zone and then implicitly tells them the reality and console them by showing a positive attitude towards the learning of their child and describing techniques that how to make the child a better learner.
To conclude, Pakistan is a developing country and no doubt people of Pakistan have great stamina to do wonders in every field of life whether it is teaching or some other fields.
