On Wednesday, Caretaker Minister for Information Technology, Dr. Umar Saif, announced a 22.67% increase in Pakistan's Information and Communication Technology (ICT) export remittances in December 2023. The country received $303 million in ICT export proceeds during the month, following a 13% increase in November 2023.
Dr. Umar Saif credited the growth in ICT exports to facilitative measures, including allowing the retention of 50% of dollars, the implementation of digital payment systems, and initiatives supporting freelancers.
Expressing gratitude to Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar and the Special Investment Facilitation Council for their efforts in providing facilities for the IT industry, Dr. Saif emphasized that the policies aim to strengthen the national economy and advance the IT and telecom sectors in Pakistan.
Dr. Saif noted that this progress is just the beginning and will contribute to significant growth in the industry, attributing the success to the reforms introduced by the caretaker government.
